June's Yarn of the Month - Dungarees!

Posted by Lisa Krack on

And so begins another month… which means it’s time to introduce a new Yarn of the Month. Because June signals summer to so many of us—school is out, the weather is warming up, the days are long, gardens have produced their first fruits-we thought it fitting to offer a cotton yarn as June’s Yarn of the Month.

Not only is Dungarees a cotton yarn, it’s spun from recycled jeans. Get it? Jeans are dungarees. It’s a DK/3 weight yarn, which is also a great weight for lighter garments. The colors are bright, without being blinding, and there are quite a few of them too! Stripes and color blocks are easy to visualize and coordinate. It comes in 3.52oz/100g skeins of 219 yards. The recommended needles and hooks are US5-7 (3.75 mm – 4.5 mm) knitting needles and US7/i9 (4.5 mm – 5.5 mm) crochet hook.

Personally, I’m not usually a fan of cotton yarns, they tend to be hard on my hands and I find them difficult to work with. But this yarn, with it’s 5% other fiber (think spandex?) really helps give it just enough stretch to be easier to work with. Making it my go-to cotton yarn. I’ve made tops and shawls. Patterns from Queensland include lace scarves, tops, and cardigans.

As the Yarn of the Month, it’s on sale throughout June-20% off! If you’re shopping online, use code YOMJune21 at checkout to receive the discount.
